What kind of people train to become homeopaths?
People who are interested in changing their own lives and helping others do the same. They are most frequently people who have experienced homeopathy as a therapy for themselves or for friends. They have often attended a short workshop or bought books to help them prescribe remedies and have been amazed by the powerful effects they have seen.

Our successful students have included hairdressers and nuclear engineers, IT experts and shop assistants, midwives and policewomen. What they have in common is a commitment to a life-changing experience and the willingness to find time and energy to work towards a professional qualification of a high standard.

Is NCHM a classical college?
What people usually mean by this question is "Does the college teach only homeopathy as practised by Kent and some of the homeopaths who followed his work?" At NCHM we explore all the ideas which are grouped together under the heading of homeopathy. In particular we go back to its roots with Hahnemann and his development of his system of medicine. We continue to investigate the homeopaths who followed and developed his hypothesis in many different ways. Contemporary and emerging views are explored and evaluated, especially in the third and fourth year of the course. Visit philosophy for more information.

Is practical homeopathy taught at NCHM?
What other kind is there? Seriously though - many of our students have been practising homeopathy in a very practical fashion with their families, pets and friends for years before they attend the course. We encourage the deepening of understanding through this work and support those who have not yet had the satisfaction of prescribing useful remedies to do so from the beginning of their studies with us. We call it applied homeopathy, and it is an element which continues throughout the course.

Will I be a contemporary homeopath?
We hope so! It is our vision that you will practise homeopathy in a way which is authentic to you, while being aware of the health options offered by mainstream medicine. You will learn to practise professionally and ethically in a manner which is appropriate for your community and time.

I understand that there are hopes of a new regulating body for homeopaths. Will my qualification from NCHM meet future requirements for registration?
Members of the Northern College of Homeopathic Medicine will be automatically qualified to register. Our core teaching team have always been part of the movement to develop rigorous and ethical education for professional homeopathy, working with the Society of Homeopaths' education team and with like-minded organisations which seek to promote appropriate and accountable standards for health practitioners.
